A great business plan for a law firm doesn’t have to be a hundred pages long. You don’t need to do tons & tons of excruciating research and gather all kinds of complicated market data. You barely even have to do much math.
 
But you DAMN WELL better be able to look your investors in the face and explain to them in plain English how your business is supposed to make a profit.
 
Now let me tell you all the mistakes I made because I didn’t have a written business plan either!
 
I wasted too many hours of every day working on things that I thought I needed to work on but which when I got it all out on paper, I realized those things were just keeping me busy but not actually getting me any closer to my goals. IN FACT, in many instances the things I thought were the MOST important turned-out to actually be the LEAST important for the success of my business. Which of course is why my business wasn’t more successful. And why I was working my ass off but not getting anywhere.
 
I wasted too many years “going through the motions” like that. And by the time I realized the hole I’d created for myself it was too late. I didn’t discover the hole until I fell into it. Then it took four long and embarrassing years to climb my way up & out.
 
My climb began when I finally found the courage to sit down and write-out in plain English “This is how this business is supposed to give us the life we want to live…a better life than we’re living now”.
